Church of San Francesco

Built in the 1400s, as the stone doorway testifies, it is part of the Franciscan Fathers convent that dates back to 1450.

Destroyed by the earthquake of 1693 and later rebuilt, the convent was inhabited until 1867, when it was suppressed and its goods confiscated by the State, which gave it to the Municipality.

It then became a primary school, then a vocational agricultural school, a secondary school and a kindergarten.

The 1990 earthquake damaged the Church of San Francesco (St. Francis), which was restored in the early 2000s.

On the high altar there is a statue of the Immaculate Conception from the 18th century, made of papier-mâché and covered with pure gold, according to the art of the time. Gathered in prayer with her hands clasped together, the Virgin is an expression of profound spirituality and mysticism.

The church preserves some 17th- and 18th-century works of particular value, including the wooden pulpit and the organ.
