Mount Catalfaro

One of the peaks of the Iblei Mountains in Catania province is a plateau of volcanic origin, which the Arabs called “Mouse Rock” because of its shape.

A destination for lovers of nature and trekking, it is a place where the natural landscape is intertwined with history and literature, as it was the inspiration for the writings of Luigi Capuana, who spent his summers at Villa Santa Margherita, not far from Vallone Lamia, marked by the stream of the same name.

From the summit of Mount Catalfaro, which stands at 518 metres above sea level, there is a magnificent view of central-eastern Sicily, including the Madonie and Nebrodi Mountains, Mount Etna, and the vast plain of Catania.
