In the heart of the territory of the ancient Sicels, this area has been famous since ancient times for the sanctuary of the Palici brothers, sons of Zeus and the nymph Talea, one of the most venerated cults of the local population.
The town of Paliké was founded on the top of the basaltic hill of Rocchicella, which dominates the plain where the ancient sanctuary stood. Some excavation campaigns carried out by the Superintendence of Cultural and Environmental Heritage of Catania have made it possible to find, in the area in front of the cave, at the foot of the hill, finds that date the frequentation of the place from the Mesolithic to the Swabian age.
The structures attributed to the sanctuary of the Palici, rebuilt in the 5th century B.C. in monumental forms, with porticoes and a banqueting hall, date back to the Archaic Age.
The archaeological area has an Antiquarium where some of the finds are exhibited.
