Caltagirone Diocesan Museum

Housed in the Monumental Complex of the Friars Minor Conventual, the museum was created to protect and make known to the public the treasures of the Cathedral and other churches in the diocesan territory.

The collection is made up of a varied heritage: works by artists of all ages, precious fabrics from sacred vestments, embossed and chased silverware, monumental monstrances, precious jewels in gold, coral and mother-of-pearl, offered as a sign of thanksgiving and praise for graces received.

The most outstanding piece is the Throne of Grace, the oldest Flemish panel in Sicily, flanked by paintings and wooden sculptures and a section of majolica with religious themes, an expression of the typical art of the area.

In 2016, the “Luigi Colaleo Baptismal Font Collection” was donated, which includes artefacts from the island, Italy and some foreign countries. In recent years, the museum has received numerous donations of contemporary works, which have been added to the permanent collection.
