Church of San Raffaele Arcangelo

Rebuilt after the earthquake of 1693, which caused the collapse of the ancient temple that stood in Occhiolà, the church was dedicated to the Madonna of Valverde.

Of the ancient hermitage of Sant’Onofrio, which stood next to it, only the perimeter walls remain.

In the 1940s the church was in a state of serious decay.

It was demolished and completely rebuilt in the 1950s. It was then dedicated to St. Raphael the Archangel, whose image is depicted on an old canvas preserved here.

It has a single rectangular nave and a single altar on the counter-facade.

The external façade is crowned by a stone entablature on which is placed a single-arched bell tower.

The main doorway is embellished with carved stone decorations.
