Cunzirìa Village

This old 19th-century artisan village, located in a valley of prickly pears, is a perfect example of industrial archaeology.

The settlement was built near the Masera stream, whose waters were essential for leather tanning, and was finally abandoned in the 1920s.

In the village there were about forty houses and the Church of Sant’Eligio (St. Eligius), of which only the structure remains.

It was here that Giovanni Verga set the duel between Turiddu and Alfio in his novel “Cavalleria rusticana”.
